At the Olivia Chan Foundation, we often say that grief and joy can exist at the same time. This week, we were reminded of that in a beautiful way through a generous bike donation made by Rex Hescock in memory of his wife.
What may seem like a simple gift holds deep meaning for the grieving families we serve. For children navigating loss, bikes represent more than play. They offer movement, freedom, and moments where laughter can return, even if just for a little while. They give kids permission to feel like kids again while still carrying their grief.
Rex’s donation was made with intention and love, honoring his wife’s memory by bringing light to other families walking through hard seasons. Acts like this remind our community that remembering someone doesn’t only live in words. It lives in kindness, in showing up for others, and in creating moments of joy where they’re needed most.
Because of this gift, children will feel the wind on their faces, experience independence, and create memories that matter. For parents watching their children smile again, even briefly, that impact is immeasurable.
We are deeply grateful to Rex for his generosity and for choosing to honor his wife in a way that touches so many lives. This is what community looks like. This is how love continues to move forward.
From all of us at OCF, thank you for helping our families heal, honor, and find moments of joy along the way.
